The Bloomington-Normal YMCA is excited to announce that Jon Holmes will be fulfilling the role of Director of Sports.

Many members of the Y will already be familiar with Holmes, as he has been a part of our Wellness team since the summer of 2023, providing his knowledge of healthy habits and proper exercise technique to youth through programs like Healthy Kids U, or assisting members of our community in their health journey through Personal Training. We anticipate that the skills and experience that he’s cultivated on the Wellness Floor will translate incredibly well to our Sports department.

“Jon has been an invaluable asset to the YMCA since he joined us last year, and we think the relationships that he’s built with members of our community and the quality of his work with us thus far should inspire confidence in the future of our Sports Department,” said Brad Ruehrdanz, Senior Director of Membership at the Bloomington-Normal YMCA. “We can’t wait to see what direction Jon takes our sports programs.”

Holmes is very excited about the opportunity to shape our Sports department into something that will better serve the Bloomington-Normal community by bringing passion and a new perspective into the world of sports.

“I am thrilled to step into the role of Sports Director! My journey as a personal trainer at the YMCA has shown me the incredible impact of sports on individuals and communities. I can’t wait to bring my passion for fitness and teamwork to this new position and inspire our participants to reach their full potential!” said Jon Holmes, Director of Sports.

The Director of Sports oversees all of our Sports programming, including our Youth Basketball Leagues, which serve over one thousand children annually. Jon began working as Director of Sports on Wednesday, October 23rd.
