Why Give To the Y
At the Y, we believe we have something special -- a sense of community -- and that everyone should have access to it, along with the programs and services that help us learn, grow, and thrive. With the help of so many, we were proud to share the Y with more than 3,000 children, seniors, and families last year who otherwise might not have become a part of our family. We believe that lasting personal and social change can come about when we work together to invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors. The YMCA continues to tackle critical social issues in McLean County by never denying access due to the inability to pay. With a goal to raise $400,000, the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign is supporting four efforts in 2026:
SAFETY AROUND WATER & DROWNING PREVENTION
The Bloomington-Normal YMCA leads in swim instruction and drowning prevention, partnering with local organizations to ensure all McLean County youth have access to water safety education.
In 2026, we are determined to teach at least 3,000 children to swim and to be safe around water.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT & SOCIAL EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
For children to thrive, they need acceptance, encouragement, and socialization with friends. With your generosity, the YMCA will provide a safe, fun and encouraging environment for the summer.
In 2026, we are determined to provide at least 900 children with increased opportunities for social/emotional learning and youth development.

ACCEPTANCE & BELONGING
In the absence of food, clothing, and shelter, the number one need for every human being is sense of community and belonging. Regardless of financial ability, your gift supports the YMCA’s doors being open to all of our neighbors.
In 2026, we are determined to provide membership opportunities to at least 4,000 of our neighbors.

FOSTERING COMMUNITY & GROWTH
The YMCA Foundation Board of Trustees exists to secure and grow charitable support for the long-term strength and impact of the Bloomington-Normal YMCA. Our mission is to ensure that vital programs, facilities, and services remain accessible and sustainable for generations to come. Through thoughtful stewardship and community-focused philanthropy, we help advance the Y’s core values of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
